Account Setup
A comprehensive guide to creating and securing your MyFolioHub account.
Creating an account on MyFolioHub is the first step toward taking control of your professional narrative. We've designed our onboarding process to be as smooth as possible, but there are several important decisions you'll make during setup that will impact your portfolio's long-term success. This guide covers everything from choosing the right authentication method to securing your account with industry-standard protection.
Choosing Your Authentication Method
When you first visit our Sign-In page, you'll see several options. While they all grant you access to the platform, each has its own advantages:
- GitHub: This is the gold standard for developers and engineers. By linking your GitHub account, you enable seamless integration with your repositories, allowing you to import projects and display your contribution graphs with a single click.
- LinkedIn: Ideal for corporate professionals, designers, and marketers. Linking LinkedIn allows us to pull in your professional headshot, headline, and work history immediately, giving you a massive head start on your content.
- Google: A fast and secure option for those who want a one-click login experience without linking specific professional data yet.
- Email & Password: The traditional method. If you choose this, ensure you use a strong, unique password and a professional email address that you check regularly.
Defining Your Professional Identity
Once you've authenticated, you'll be asked to provide some basic profile information. This is more than just administrative data; it's the foundation of your brand:
- Full Name: Use the name you want to be known by professionally. If you have a common name, consider including a middle initial to help with SEO.
- Professional Headline: This is your "elevator pitch" in 10 words or less. Instead of just "Software Engineer," try something more descriptive like "Full-Stack Developer specializing in Scalable Cloud Architectures."
- Username & URL: This is critical. Your username determines your portfolio's URL (e.g.,
myfoliohub.com/jane-doe). We strongly recommend using a variation of your name. Avoid using numbers or "cool" handles that might look unprofessional to a recruiter.
Securing Your Account
Your portfolio contains sensitive professional data and represents your public reputation. Protecting it is paramount. We recommend taking the following steps immediately after account creation:
First, navigate to Settings > Security and enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). This adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a code from your phone in addition to your password. Even if someone manages to guess your password, they won't be able to access your account without your physical device.
Second, verify your email address. We'll send a verification link to the email you provided. Verifying your email ensures that you can recover your account if you're ever locked out and allows you to receive important security alerts and analytics reports.
Completing Your Profile
Before you dive into the builder, take a moment to fill out your Global Profile. This information—including your social media links (Twitter, GitHub, LinkedIn, Dribbble), your location, and your primary contact email—will be used across all the portfolios you create. By setting it once in your account settings, you ensure consistency and save time when experimenting with different templates or layouts.
A Note on Privacy
At MyFolioHub, we take your privacy seriously. We never sell your personal data to third parties. Your account information is used solely to provide you with the best possible experience on our platform. You can view our full Privacy Policy at any time for more details on how we handle your data.
